When speaking to the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin about the fate of Europe, Winston Churchill said ââ¬Å"Might it not be thought rather cynical if it seemed we disposed of these issues, so fateful to millions of people in such an off-hand manner?â⬠In what would come to be known as the ââ¬Å"Percentagesâ⬠Agreement, Churchill and Stalin had begun discussing a new age of imperialism that would follow the end of World War II. The imperialism they discussed was one of political and commercial influence as a way to control territories, instead of the colonial method. The colonial empires remained devastated following the events of World War II and, the dawn of Stalin and Churchillââ¬â¢s new imperialism would spark the Cold War between the economicallyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The Soviet Unionââ¬â¢s Sovietization of Eastern Europe was Joseph Stalinââ¬â¢s response to the betrayal of Great Britain in the ââ¬Å"Percentagesâ⬠Agreement and the failure of the Gr and Alliance. Outside of those nations however, the Soviet Union began to promote self-sustaining economic freedom in the form of the Soviet economy. This heavily conflicted and disrupted with the ââ¬Å"Trilateralâ⬠Empireââ¬â¢s attempts at constructing an economically controlled empire. As the United States and Soviet Union divided the world into two positions, rising national powerhouses, such as Argentina, implemented the idea of a Third Position for the war. The Third Position, embraced by Argentinaââ¬â¢s president Juan Perà ³n, gave a new option during the height of the Cold War. Perà ³nââ¬â¢s Third Position was a removal from the conflict of the First Position, the United States and Western Europe, and the Second Position, the Soviet Union and its satellite territories. Unknown at the time, the idea of the Third Position would begin to merge with the idea of the Global South to make targets of Latin America, Africa, and East Asia.
